Civil Society Strengthening
NDI’s civil society program focuses on increasing citizen participation in the political process and strengthening the capacity of Azerbaijan’s domestic nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). NDI helps civic groups identify and address community needs.
Women and Youth Participation
NDI aims to enhance the leadership skills of women and youth from political parties, government institutions and civil society organizations throughout Azerbaijan. The program aims to make the political process more inclusive and representative of youth and women.
Political Party Development
NDI has collaborated with Azerbaijan's major political parties to share international experiences on developing more democratic organizational structures within their parties, creating better-defined party messages, and improving internal party communication and regional branch development.
Civic/Election Organizing
Since 2001, NDI has partnered with the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDS), a nonpartisan, nongovernmental organization promoting meaningful elections and the development of democratic institutions. EMDS has observed 11 elections and has trained more than 9,000 observers.
Funding
NDI programs in Azerbaijan have been funded by the National Endowment for Democracy, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.
