Emerging Democracies Forum
Managing the Twin Transitions
Closing Plenaries
(3 of 25 pages)

Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada: Thank you, Prime Minister, and for your very
generous words and your brief, but concrete, summary of what has been achieved over these intensive days of work
and discussion. I once again would like to offer the floor to whatever delegation would want to use it. Our friend
from Georgia.
Honorable Zurab Zhyania: Mr. Chairman, in order to increase the women participation at the main table,
allow me to invite the leader of majority in Georgian Parliament, Madame Gogoberidze, to speak on behalf of our
delegation.
Madame Gogoberidze: Thank you very much for your generosity, Mr. Speaker. Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends.
I'm really happy to be here and thank you all for giving us this unique opportunity to feel the aroma [inaudible],
to touch the stones of [inaudible], to be fascinated by your culture, your beautiful old town and your people.
And I can assure you that once again in my life I had a sensation that one always has when he sees the outbursts
of human soul, that mankind will serve or will not only survive [inaudible]. We have only to make some fear [inaudible],
to be a little more reasonable, a bit more attentive towards others, less aggressive and crazy, think more often
about our common destiny. And we know all that our common destinies is democracy. This is our choice.
It was so exciting to witness representatives of different countries with different backgrounds, different cultures,
different religions, to see that all of us, we have the same goals. This is really exciting for us, you know.
Not only same goals, we have the same difficulties. But I still think that we know how to overcome them. I'm
sure that we can achieve those goals together. It seems especially easy when we listen to the participants of this
forum, when you see how frank and how deep their thinking is and that everybody is speaking about the thoughts
that are gathered by maybe centuries.
We have shared our experience in different fields; how to make reforms acceptable by our population, how to gain
the trust of our citizens when more of us or maybe all of us cannot yet provide them with decent level of life.
We have spoken about the civil society and about the roles of NGO's in this case and we are sure that it is absolutely
necessary to have very developed civil
society NGO's because without it it is impossible to gain the trust on the part of public.
We have spoken about the struggle with corruption. We have discussed the importance of forming civil society.
I have spoken about it all the day. And I am happy that our initiative about new discussions with international
financial organizations were supported by all delegations and we hope that it will give us in future extensive
results.
At the last, we have spoken about the vital role of women in politics. And to be truly sincere I would like to
conclude with such a statement. When women will be able to contribute to our civilization, wholly contribute to
our civilization with her intelligence, her knowledge, her tolerance, her understanding of another point of view,
I think that the whole mankind will be more reasonable and more human. Thank you very much.
Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada: Thank you very much for the statement. I will give the floor to the distinguished
representative from Morocco.
Speaker: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. In actual fact, as far as the Moroccan delegation is concerned it's very
similar to that of Georgia. The head of the delegation has given the floor to the opposition. But I am one of
the two bicameral and I belong to the opposition. And therefore my request is, is request very contrary to that
of Georgia's and I would ask you to give the floor to either of the majority, the representatives of the majority
in Morocco who is at the same time representative of the civic society in Morocco. Because we have two camerals,
deputies [inaudible] and again the trade unions and civic society in Morocco. And for this reason I would appeal
to you, Mr. Chairman, that you give the floor to Mr. Abdi (sic) Saleh.
