NDI's Democracy Award is the Institute's highest honor, presented annually to someone who has demonstrated a commitment to democracy and human rights. The International Leaders Forum
The International Leaders Forum (ILF) has been bringing world leaders to the Democratic Party Convention for more than two decades. During the event, foreign heads of state, members of parliament and political leaders get a first-hand look at the U.S. political process and have the opportunity to informally exchange ideas with their counterparts from around the world. Win with Women
Women's political participation is a vital component of a healthy democracy. The Win with Women Initiative, launched in December 2003 by NDI Chairman Madeleine Albright, aims to help women increase their political involvement in countries around the world. The African Statesmen Initiative
NDI's African Statesmen Initiative (ASI) allows former African heads of state to continue playing a role in the continent's democratic development. All of ASI's participants are leaders who left office democratically. The initiative provides a forum for these leaders to share experiences on democratization and conflict management while highlighting their efforts to promote good governance in Africa. Congress of Democrats from the Islamic World
Political leaders from predominantly Muslim countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East met in Istanbul, Turkey in April 2004, in order to discuss democratic development in their countries. The participantsknown as Congress of Democrats from the Islamic World (CDIW)committed themselves to continuing to work on behalf of democratic reform in the Muslim world. Learn more about CDIW.
