NDI Staff: Biographies

Kym McCarty

Kym McCarty is NDI's resident director for Sudan, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Kym is an Institute veteran having worked for NDI since 1996, most recently as deputy to the vice president, during which time she assisted with managing Institute operations in Washington, D.C. and 50 field offices.

In 2004, she organized and directed the International Leaders Forum, NDI's week-long program convened quadrennially during the Democratic National Convention. She has also worked on a variety of other Institute-wide programs including the Emerging Democracies Forum in Sana'a Yemen and election missions in Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan. Before joining NDI, Kym directed recruiting for WorldTeach, based at the Center for International Development at Harvard University. Earlier, she spent a year teaching English and learning Swahili as a volunteer for WorldTeach in Kenya.

Kym earned a B.A. in Business Management from Johnson State College in Vermont and a Public Health Certificate from Harvard University.
