NDI Staff: Biographies Jerome Cheung Jerome Cheung is NDI’s resident director in Cambodia. Before moving to his current post in 2006, Mr. Cheung was based in Indonesia for six years, from where managed a wide variety of the Institute’s civic participation and election efforts including a program that helped civic groups monitor local government budgets to better understand the delivery of municipal services; seven “quick count” election initiatives; and three voter registration audit projects. He has also conducted trainings in civic advocacy, fundraising, non-profit management and security sector reform. In 2003, he was an international election observer in Cambodia’s national parliamentary elections. An experienced trainer and facilitator, Mr. Cheung studied political science at McMaster University in Ontario, in his native Canada. Previous to NDI, he worked in campaigning and fundraising for a variety of civic organizations including Greenpeace Canada, the Toronto Disarmament Network, Strategic Communications and the Sierra Legal Defense Fund. From 1996 to 2000, he managed a civil society capacity-building program for USC Canada and earlier he volunteered as a CUSO volunteer in Java where he assisted a local training institute to design and implement civil society training programs. From 1992 to 1996, he worked for Canada World Youth on various development education programs. Mr. Cheung speaks English, French and Indonesian. |
