NDI Staff: Biographies

Aaron Azelton

Aaron Azelton has worked at NDI since 1992, serving in several regional and functional team positions-including resident representative. This background has provided him with a range of first-hand experiences from program planning to implementation and evaluation. In his current position as senior advisor and director of citizen participation programs, Mr. Azelton supports regional team initiatives by providing information and guidance on all aspects of citizen participation programs. He also acts as an occasional program trainer and evaluator. During 1997-1998, he spent 10 months in Bosnia and Hercegovina (BiH) initiating and directing NDI's Civic Forum program. In that position, Mr. Azelton hired, trained, and managed nine local team members who acted as organizers and facilitators of community level, educational discussions. Before working in BiH, he resided in the Gaza Strip where he helped develop and implement the first NDI Civic Forum program. Mr. Azelton graduated from Michigan State in 1990 and earned a Masters in Political Economy from The George Washington University in 1994. He has also has received additional training in community organizing and adult education. He is married and his interests include outdoor activities, training dogs, home-improvement projects and reading.
