NDI

The National Democratic Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.

Carlo Binda

Carlo Binda is NDI's senior resident director in Libya. Earlier, he served as NDI's resident country director in Nigeria and Kosovo, and previously resided in Sana'a as the Institute's resident parliamentary expert and deputy director for the program in Yemen, where he managed a legislative capacity building project with the parliament. During this time, Mr. Binda also established a national chapter in Yemen of Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, developed networks of accountability and policy development within the country, and regularly worked with MPs, academics and political actors in the Middle East.

Before joining NDI in 2004, Mr. Binda served as the manager of intergovernmental affairs for The Royal Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada. He was transferred to that position from his post as special advisor to the premier of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Mr. Binda also gained election campaign and party organization experience at the municipal, provincial and national levels with Canada's New Democratic Party.

He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Regina.
