The National Democratic Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.

Peter Manikas, senior associate and regional director for Asia programs at NDI, will testify before the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee regarding Burma.

As its neighbors in the region grapple with their own political transitions, Turkey is undertaking a reform process of its own that will shape the country’s democratic future for years to come. The country is in the midst of developing a new civilian constitution to replace the current version, written in 1982 under the then-ruling military.
