Ten years ago, on Oct. 5, Serbia marked one of the most important dates in its recent history — the overthrow of Slobodan Milosevic. On that day, the citizens of Serbia turned from its troubled course toward a program that matched the dominant desire for a European future. The Balkan region changed dramatically in the year 2000 with the electoral defeats of both Milosevic and Croatia's President Tudjman, concluding a decade that saw the violent breakdown of Yugoslavia.
