For 30 years, Dilek "Dee" Ertukel has worked to strengthen democratic institutions, advance human rights and increase women’s political empowerment in countries all over the world.  Her areas of expertise include strategic planning, advocacy, organizational development and fundraising.

Scott Kearin is currently NDI's senior resident director in Kyrgyzstan, having previously worked for the Institute in a number of countries since 1998. He initially joined NDI to direct programs in Kyrgyzstan and later managed the political party program in Georgia before moving on to open the Institute’s office in Tajikistan in 2002. In 2003, he became NDI’s resident director in Nepal where he remained for two years before leaving to head the Institute’s office in Turkey in 2005. In 2007, Mr.

Laura Jewett is NDI’s regional director for Eurasia. She joined the Institute in 1994 and had served as the Eurasia team’s deputy director for 10 years. In the region, NDI is currently conducting programs to strengthen civil society and support multiparty democracy in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Ms. Jewett has traveled extensively in Eurasia, meeting with political, civic and government leaders to assess political conditions and design democracy assistance programs. Ms. Jewett earned her Ph.D.

Amy Schultz is NDI’s resident director in Kazakhstan, where she oversees all Institute programs from the Almaty office. Previously, she managed NDI initiatives in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Ms. Schultz brings to the Institute more than 20 years of wide-ranging political and civic experience.

Robert Benjamin is a senior associate and the regional director of Central and Eastern Europe programs. In this latter role, he oversees in-country and regional programs in legislative strengthening, political party development, civil society development, election processes, and women, youth and ethnic minority political participation. He has also contributed to democracy programs in Asia, Latin America, North Africa and West Africa. Mr. Benjamin has worked at NDI since 1993. He holds a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.A.

Lisa McLean serves as senior resident director of NDI's offices in Iraq, working to strengthen democratic institutions, supporting the political participation of women and youth, and helping to ensure open and fair electoral processes. Ms. McLean began working for NDI in 1990 and has served in Bulgaria, Montenegro, Slovakia and Washington, D.C. In Montenegro, she worked intensively with the parliament of Montenegro to increase its oversight and representative functions.

Tom Kelly joined NDI's Serbia program as its resident senior director in 2007. He brings to the Institute more than 20 years of experience with campaigns and communications, specializing in message development and media relations for nonprofit advocacy organizations, political parties and candidates.

Chris Henshaw is NDI's resident senior director in Macedonia. Earlier for NDI, he conducted seminars in Albania on political organization and election campaign management in 2003. He joined NDI full-time in 2005 with more than 20 years of experience as a political organizer and campaign manager in local, regional, national and European elections. Previous to his current post with the Institute, Mr.

Zuzana Dzurikova Papazoski is the resident director for NDI in Slovakia. Ms. Dzurikova manages NDI's Western Balkan Legislative Strengthening program, a multi-year effort to increase collaboration between the parliaments of Western and Central Europe and the Western Balkans through cross-border and regional exchanges from the Institute's office in Bratislava, Slovakia.
