Kosovo's citizens took to the polls on Dec. 12 to participate in the first parliamentary election since the country declared independence in 2008. However, allegations of fraud led the Central Election Commission to call for re-votes in six municipalities to date. NDI's resident director in Kosovo, Laura Nichols, is returning to Washington to share the latest information on the elections; analyze the country’s near-term political development in their aftermath; and discuss the overall impact of the polls on Kosovo’s democratic transition.
Nichols has served as director of NDI’s Kosovo programs since 2010, working across the political spectrum with parties, civic groups and Kosovo’s ethnic minority communities.
