The Pacific Council will hold a luncheon discussion with Kenneth Wollack and Richard A. Nuccio on Monday, June 4. Wollack and Nuccio will share their perspectives on the myriad challenges confronting post-conflict and fragile states undergoing democratic transitions. They will also discuss the current problems facing South Sudan – where waves of conflict continue to be a challenging factor – and other key nations that are actively engaged in building democratic institutions and practices.
Wollack has been involved in foreign affairs, journalism and politics for 40 years. He joined the NDI) as the executive vice president in 1986, and currently serves as its president. Prior to joining NDI, Wollack co-edited the Middle East Policy Survey, a Washington-based newsletter, and has written regularly on foreign affairs for the Los Angeles Times.
Nuccio served as NDI’s senior director in South Sudan until May of this year. Prior to joining NDI in 2011, he was the director of Civitas International Programs at the Center for Civic Education, where he directed civic education programs and coordinated a network of civic educators in more than 70 countries. Nuccio has also served in a number of senior foreign policy positions in the U.S. government.
