Clark Plexico is trying to do the very thing overseas that he sees falling apart in Raleigh: bring political leaders closer to the people and each other.
Plexico, a former three-term state senator from Henderson County during the 1990s, serves as country director in Uzbekistan for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. Started by the Reagan administration in the early 1980s, the program is a democracy assistance initiative for developing countries and emerging economies or democracies that advocates international best practices in democracy and governance.
