John M. Palien is the director of human resources at NDI. Mr. Palien comes to NDI with more than 25 years of international HR experience from both the private and non-profit sectors. Most recently, he worked with ORC Worldwide, a global human resources consulting firm that advises NGOs and other companies on a broad range of issues. Among other things, Mr. Palien was responsible for providing advice and best practices to global humanitarian and development organizations, as well as bi-lateral and multi-lateral banks.
Before joining ORC, Mr. Palien worked for six years as the manager of global recruitment, compensation and human resources management systems with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), where he was responsible for the management, design, development and administration of CRS's domestic and international human resource programs. Prior to CRS, he was the director of compensation and performance management at USinternetworking, Inc., an AT&T company. Previously he was the director of international human resources, compensation and benefits for Calgon Corporation and manager of compensation and benefits with Cordis Corporation (a Johnson & Johnson company), with global human resources responsibilities. Mr. Palien holds a Certified Compensation Professional designation from World at Work. He received a B.A. in international development from the School of International Service at American University.
