To honor both individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to democratic values and human rights, NDI has created several awards to recognize outstanding efforts.

The Harriman Democracy Award [2]

The W. Averell Harriman Democracy Award is the Institute's highest honor, generally presented annually to someone who has demonstrated a commitment to democracy and human rights. | Read more » [2]

The Andi Parhamovich Fellowship [3]

In honor of the vision, dedication and courage of former NDI staff member Andi Parhamovich, the Institute has established a fellowship to help enhance the skills of young women seeking to participate more fully in the politics of their countries. | Read more » [3]

The Madeleine K. Albright Grant [4]

Each year, the Institute honors the achievements of a small grassroots organization that has worked effectively to promote greater roles for women in political and civic life. | Read more » [4]

NDI's 25th Anniversary Dinner [5]

At its 25th anniversary dinner on May 10, NDI honored:

  • Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai of Zimbabwe [6], recipient of the W. Averell Harriman Democracy Award;
  • The Network of Women of Chocó [7], recipient of the Madeleine K. Albright Grant; and
  • Sushmita Subba Manandhar [8], recipient of the Andi Parhamovich Fellowship.
