Representatives from the Nigeria Governor's Forum Delegation Visit NDI [1]

Representatives of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) visited NDI on May 21 to discuss the Forum’s work in Nigeria [2] and areas of potential cooperation with the Institute. Topics discussed included: electoral reform, fiscal transparency and the important role played by state governments in Nigeria’s democratic development. The bipartisan delegation featured four Nigerian governors: Kwara State Gov. Bukola Saraki - chairman of the NGF; Bauchi State Gov. Isa Yuguda; Edo State Gov. Adams Oshiomhole; and Akwa-Ibom State Gov. Godswill Akpabio. Former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Howard Jeter and the Director General of the NGF Ashishana Bayo Okauru accompanied the governors on their visit to NDI.

Over the past decade, NDI has worked closely with Nigerian democrats to support the development of the country’s democratic institutions and has previously provided technical assistance and expert advice to the Forum when it was first being established following the 1998-99 transition from military to civilian rule.
