Violence between ethnic Uzbeks and ethnic Kyrgyz in June 2010 in southern Kyrgyzstan left approximately 470 dead and hundreds of thousands displaced. The international Kyrgyzstan Inquiry Commission (KIC), led by Dr. Kimmo Kiljunen, Special Representative for Central Asia to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, investigated the violence at the request of President Roza Otunbayeva, and released its report in early May 2011. The visiting panelists are members of an official delegation from Kyrgyzstan travelling to the United States to respond to the KIC report. The report criticizes the interim government for failing to prevent the violence or provide a swift response. It also notes egregious acts of violence against ethnic Uzbeks.

NDI is pleased to host this timely discussion at the request of the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic, Muktar Djumaliev.
