Rich Verma is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP. He rejoined the firm in April 2011 after serving in the Obama administration as the assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs where he was Secretary Clinton’s principal advisor on congressional affairs.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Verma served as a senior policy advisor to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. For five years, he was counsel, foreign policy advisor and senior national security advisor to the Sen. Reid. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Verma served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps. He has also worked in the House of Representatives for the late Congressman John P. Murtha and has served as a country director for NDI in Romania from ­­­­­­­­­­­­­1993 to 1994.
