The National Democratic Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.

Gegham Sargsyan

Gegham Sargsyan is the resident country director for NDI Armenia, overseeing NDI's work with political parties, parliamentary programs, local NGOs, youth and women's groups. Mr. Sargsyan brings more than 17 years of political consulting and civic organizing experience to his position. He joined the Institute in 1995 and has served as resident country director in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Prior to joining NDI, Mr. Sargsyan was a presidential advisor on foreign policy issues in Armenia. In 1993, he worked as a coordinator for World Bank and International Monetary Fund delegations. Following that, he served as a senior trainer and consultant for an NGO training center in Yerevan, Armenia. Mr. Sargsyan has participated in various international election observation delegations and conducted trainings and consultations for political parties and candidates in all the former Soviet countries.

He has a law degree and Ph.D. in law from Moscow State University.
