The Democratic Century Fund (DCF) helps to facilitate many special events at NDI.
Working with NDI's board chairman and members, and regional staff, NDI also organizes small fundraising events, such as receptions and small dinners with visiting democratic leaders.
The International Leaders Forum
Every four years at the Democratic National Convention, NDI
brings together 500 heads of government, parliamentarians,
ambassadors, and political party leaders from more than
100 nations. Aimed at providing insight into the U.S.
democratic process as well as global economic and political international
issues, the program welcomed these distinguished international guests to Los Angeles
in August 2000.
The Forum included a series of bipartisan
seminars on topics ranging from an analysis of the 2000
U.S. Presidential campaign, to a discussion of international trade policies
and the “crisis of confidence” faced by political parties today. Click here for highlights of the event.
Emerging Democracies Forum
Public-private partnerships allowed NDI to bring together political leaders from emerging democracies around the world for an extraordinary three-day summit in July 1999. Leaders from 16 emerging democracies gathered in Sana'a, Yemen to share experiences and develop action plans to further their democratic progress. The bold principles to which the participants committed themselves are set forth in the Sana'a Declaration.
Sponsors included the governments of Yemen, Japan, United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands, as well as international agencies including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, International Labour Organization, National Endowment for Democracy (NED), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Westminster Foundation and the World Bank.
