Heather Therrien is NDIs resident director in Yemen. For three years before taking her current position in 2009, she worked for the Institute in Iraq, departing as the deputy resident director having earlier directed the political parties program, managed the women’s political participation effort and trained extensively on political party development.
Before joining NDI, Heather’s career in politics covered a wide range of clients and initiatives. As a consultant for a communication firm for 12 years, Heather worked with individuals and organizations both inside and outside government including political candidates, grassroots-based advocacy coalitions and referendum initiatives, private businesses as well as print and broadcast media. She specializes in research-based strategic planning, communication methods and campaign implementation, and gained experience working issues ranging from electricity deregulation to stem cell research.
Heather earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Michigan State University.
