Last week the National Democratic Institute (NDI) celebrated its 30th anniversary of supporting and strengthening democracy around the world.

Over the past three decades , NDI has been privileged to work in more than 130 countries, supporting democratic institutions through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government. As we mark this milestone, we reflect on the efforts of men and women who are working, sometimes against tremendous odds, to make this world a more peaceful, humane and democratic place.

We hope you will enjoy this short film showcasing NDI’'s mission to respond to the aspirations of people seeking to live in open, democratic societies that recognize and promote basic human rights.

We paint that picture every day with the brush of technology." Other speakers were Samantha Power, U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations; NDI Vice Chair Tom Daschle; Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves; and NDI Chairman Madeleine Albright, who said citizens "expect their local and national governments to listen and respond to them at the speed of the Internet."
