Mary O’Donoghue is NDI’s country director in Algeria. Ms. O’Donoghue has previously supported NDI's projects in Iraq and Libya, where she has overseen, designed, implemented, and evaluated programming in a range of areas including governance, civil society development, political party assistance, and women’s political participation.
Prior to joining NDI, Ms. O’Donoghue spent nearly two decades working for the British Columbia New Democrats, first as a field organizer for the party, and then as research director and subsequently executive director for the parliamentary caucus. In her capacity as executive director, Ms. O’Donoghue was responsible for the overall operation of the caucus and the successful implementation of caucus political priorities. Ms. O’Donoghue was also a founding partner and managing director of IdeaWorks Consulting, a consulting group based in Vancouver and Victoria, and served as Director of Legislation, Research & Political Action for the British Columbia Federation of Labor.
Ms. Donoghue has significant hands-on political and campaign experience. From 1981 to 2009, she held volunteer or paid staff positions on over 25 electoral campaigns at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels across Canada, including senior positions in central campaigns. Ms. O’Donoghue has been involved in mapping strategy for election and issue campaigns and has chaired or staffed various provincial and federal party convention committees.
