Tamerlin Godley

Tamerlin Godley is a litigation partner with Munger, Tolles & Olson, specializing in entertainment litigation and advising. She serves as counsel to the major studios, networks, recording companies and music publishers, including Turner Broadcasting,  Warner Bros., Sony Pictures and Warner Music Group, along with many other entertainment related entities.

Notable representations include leading the investigation into the Bachelor in Paradise sexual assault allegations for Warner Brothers;  Obtaining a complete defense victory and an award of attorneys’ fees in a trademark and copyright action for the popular Life is Beautiful Music festival in Las Vegas.  She was awarded a California Lawyer Entertainment Attorney of the Year Award for her representation of Warner Bros. in its highly publicized dispute with Charlie Sheen.  Ms. Godley’s litigation experience extends to other complicated business disputes, including representing Transocean in the second phase of the BP oil spill litigation. Ms. Godley is recognized as a leading lawyer by Chambers USA.

Ms. Godley is also passionately committed to social justice issues. She led the pro bono team that obtained a preliminary injunction in January 2016 blocking implementation of Nevada’s sweeping voucher law, which risked diversion from Nevada’s already underfunded public schools of over $200 million each biennium.  In July 2016, Ms. Godley successfully argued before the Nevada Supreme Court, against well-known Supreme Court advocate Paul Clement, to permanently keep the law from going into effect.  Ms. Godley also was appointed by Sheriff McDonald to serve on the Los Angeles County Inmate Welfare Commission.  She previously served as deputy general counsel for the Citizens’ Commission on Jail Violence investigating systemic problems in the Los Angeles County Jails, the largest jail system in the United States.  Previous to that she served on the Rampart Independent Review Panel, which investigated and analyzed the Los Angeles Police Department’s discipline and oversight practices.  Among other non-profit work, she has served in leadership positions on a local school board, the Armory Center for the Arts board, and a local educational foundation.  

Ms. Godley graduated from UCLA with a double major in English and political science, obtained a master's degree in English from Cal State Northridge and taught in South Central Los Angeles before going to law school. She received her J.D., Order of the Coif, from the USC Gould School of Law. Prior to joining Munger Tolles, Ms. Godley clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Harry L. Hupp of the Central District of California.
