Sophia Toumbalakis
Sophia Toumbalakis is NDI’s Director of Program Coordination, managing a team that serves as the Institute’s primary point of contact with its donors on grant-related and compliance matters, as well as managing the NDI strategic planning process and administration of NDI’s global awards. In addition, Ms. Toumbalakis currently serves as NDI’s Senior Manager to the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS), and is responsible for managing NDI’s overall portfolio, as well as representing NDI to CEPPS.
With a background in international development and grants administration, Ms. Toumbalakis has been with NDI since 1999, supporting a variety of regional and functional teams to ensure compliance with NDI’s awards, as well as working with NDI’s administrative teams to contribute to and provide guidance on NDI’s policies and procedures related to compliance with donor regulations. To ensure NDI is meeting the donor’s and NDI’s priorities, Ms. Toumbalakis has worked to refine and develop institutional strategic planning processes for NDI’s global awards. In addition, she worked on NDI’s Citizen Participation team, as well as supported the MENA team, implementing programs in Jordan and Lebanon.
In addition to Ms. Toumbalakis’ work with NDI, she has been working with CEPPS since 2001, engaging on the development and implementation on four iterations of the global and two direct awards issued to CEPPS. In addition serving as NDI’s CEPPS Senior Manager, Ms. Toumbalakis served as the CEPPS Deputy Administrative Director under the CEPPS III global award, leading the process of reviewing, streamlining and revising CEPPS administrative procedures and policies to ensure more cohesive program implementation.
