Former US ambassador to the United Nations Bill Richardson who is in the country at the invitation of the NGO National Democratic Institute to discuss plans for preventing election-related violence said Congo is capable of staging free and fair election, according to Reuters.

"This is the election determinant of Congo's future. This is… the path is going to be democracy or some kind of instability. And the fact that there's such potential for a good fair positive election, with some problems, there are going to be problems! There's going to be some mishaps, hiccups, complaints. But the fact that it is happening so dynamically, so comprehensively is a very good sign," he said.
