NDI conducted a four-part study that analyzes changes to Guatemalan political culture. The study includes: case studies on the transformation of political culture by analyzing social media; a map of key political actors, including groups and individuals that existed before the political crisis as well as emerging actors; an analysis of methods of political action used by citizens and civic groups during the public protests; and an analysis of the government’s reaction and response to the civic protests.

Liberians have celebrated more than fifteen years of peace since their civil war ended, transitioning from a country seeking stability to one focused on transformation. The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is supporting legislative structures and civil society organizations (CSOs) to address the issues that most greatly affect Liberians as the country heads into elections in 2023.

In 2016, NDI worked with the Juárez Assembly of Organizations (Asamblea de Organizaciones de Juárez, the Assembly), a coalition of local organizations working on municipal issues, to draft a citizen proposal with 38 goals for the next Ciudad Juárez government. Officials elected in 2016 elections have since reported the incorporation of these goals into the 2017 Municipal Development Plan (Plan Municipal de Desarrollo, PMD).

This compilation of eight stories highlights the observation efforts of local partner organization Citizen Action (Accion Ciudadana, AC) and the nine-member observation coalition Electoral Watch (Mirador Electoral) that were originally published on NDI’s blog. These groups conducted a comprehensive program to monitor the pre-election environment as well as the electoral process and polls on election day.
