What's New at NDI Gender, Women and Democracy (GWD):

New Partnership with GIWPS

We are excited to announce a new partnership with Georgetown Institute of Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS). This will be a new and exciting program of collaboration at the nexus of democracy, peace and security. It will facilitate in-depth conversations and collaboration between “thinkers” and “doers” who are working on these issues. By leveraging both the depth of GIWPS research base and academic institutional partnerships, and the richness of NDI's 30 years of in-country democracy assistance, we intend to take forward the Institutes’ shared ambition to enable women to achieve a more equitable, peaceful, and inclusive world for their families, communities, and countries.

Upcoming Partnership with WFPG

In addition to the new GIWPS partnership, we are thrilled to announce a new collaboration with the Women's Foreign Policy Group (WFPG) Together, GWD and WFPG will be co-hosting a number of events over the next year. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements!

VAW-P Roundtable Workshop

We will be hosting a high-level Violence against Women in Politics (VAW-P) Roundtable in early December. The objective of the workshop is to name this emerging problem, exchange data and research findings, and begin to map the solutions that are being used to combat it. In this context, the VAW-P Roundtable is the first step to stimulate a broader global conversation on addressing the problem of VAW-P.

Women and Peace-building

Professor Monica McWilliams and Dr. Aisling Swaine joined NDI in a conversation on violence against women and peacebuilding on Friday, October 16th. Both experts discussed their extensive experience on women, peace and security initiatives in conflict and post-conflict settings and priority initiatives for women's security in the future. The topic of violence against women in conflict is especially pertinent to NDI's work addressing violence against women in elections. Read more about #VotesWithoutViolence here.
