NDI President Kenneth Wollack released the following statement regarding President Jimmy Carter:

“NDI salutes the extraordinary work of President Carter and wishes him a speedy and full recovery. Our thoughts are with the president and the Carter family.”

For his many personal contributions to democracy, NDI was proud to present President Carter with its W. Averell Harriman Award in 1992. Throughout the years, NDI has been honored to work with President Carter and the Carter Center in establishing norms and standards for international election observation, and in organizing observation missions in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

President Carter has played a leading role in supporting elections that have ushered in democratic transitions.
