GERALD S. MCGOWAN

Former United States Ambassador to the Portuguese Republic

Gerald S. McGowan was the US Ambassador to Portugal from 1998-2001. He currently is of Counsel to Lukas, Nace, Guitterez and Sachs.

Mr. McGowan is a telecommunications industry veteran with over 30 years experience, has served on the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) Board of Directors, and was instrumental in launching several successful telecommunications business ventures, including Dial Call, Integrated Northcoast and McLang Cellular. Mr. McGowan, also in conjuntion with his partners built, operated and then sold a successful cellular company that did business in Eastern Ohio.

He currently serves on the board of Portugal Telecom and the Advisory Board of Banco Espirito Santo, a New York based investment bank.

Gerry was a founding principal of the Washington, D.C. law firm Lukas, McGowan, Nace & Gutierrez where he practiced telecommunications law for over 20 years. His background includes serving as clerk to Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas G. Kavanagh and assistant to the late U.S. Senator Phillip A. Hart. In addition, Gerry served on the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) as well as on the Board of the Virginia Port Authority. Gerry received a B.S from Georgetown University followed by a Law Degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
