On International Democracy Day (September 15), NDI President Derek Mitchell published a piece in The Hill making the case for democracy support as essential to U.S. global strategy, and calling for the U.S. government to prepare a "National Democracy Strategy." He argues, "The stakes are high -- but policies that support citizens struggling for their democratic rights can serve as an effective "ground game" that marries U.S. values and interests and complements other government-led approaches to today's complex, urgent strategic challenges.
