The National Democratic Institute (NDI) has released the results of its latest national telephone survey of Ukrainians, its first during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the new study, completed in August 2020, the pandemic has deeply impacted many aspects of Ukrainians’ lives, especially their economic outlook. Despite these challenges, Ukrainians remain committed to democratic values, although they have become less optimistic about the future over the past year.

This poll aims to capture the most relevant information to foster the development of responsive policies and governance. ‘We want a homeland’--Iraqis Assess Anti-Government Protests and Their Country’s Path Forward 

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) recently completed a series of focus groups and key informant interviews in Iraq to identify public views and perceptions about the anti-government protests, assess the response of the government and other stakeholders, and explore a potential path forward. 

PODGORICA, MONTENEGRO. The National Democratic Institute (NDI) has conducted a public opinion poll in Montenegro in early August on the process leading to the parliamentary elections on August 30. The nationwide poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.18 percentage points with a 95 percent confidence level. Key findings:

> Montenegro's overall direction. Citizens are split over whether Montenegro is heading in the right or wrong direction, arrayed largely along partisan and ethnic lines.

In May 2020, Kosovo citizens were more optimistic than last year about the direction of the country. Longstanding concerns remained unemployment and corruption, now followed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of visa liberalization with the European Union. Violence against women was a major challenge.

VOTERS PRIORITIZE ECONOMY, PUBLIC HEALTH, ANTI-CORRUPTION; CONCERNED ABOUT DIRECTION OF COUNTRY

SKOPJE, NORTH MACEDONIA. A new National Democratic Institute (NDI) nationwide public opinion poll in North Macedonia, fielded in the run-up to the official start of the campaign for the July 15 parliamentary elections, shows that voters prioritize economic development and remain concerned about the COVID-19 epidemic.

 

Citizens in Serbia have expressed positive attitudes toward the country’s handling of the Covid-19 crisis as the country approaches parliamentary and local elections on June 21.
