National Democratic Institute to Host Summit on Constitutional Term Limits in Africa

The National Democratic Institute will co-host a virtual pan-African summit December 15-17, bringing together leaders from civil society, international organizations, and former government officials to discuss concrete steps to strengthen democracies on the African continent through constitutional term limits. 

This year’s summit is a follow-up to the inaugural summit held in Niamey, Niger Republic in 2019, during which leaders from across Africa signed the Niamey Declaration in Support of Constitutionalism for Democratic Consolidation and the Peaceful Transfer of Power. Among those speaking this year are former President of Malawi Dr. Joyce Banda, former Prime Minister of Senegal Dr. Aminata Touré and Calixte Mbari, Head of the Democracy, Governance, Human Rights, and Election division at the African Union.
