Bridging the Divide

Around the world, engagement between young people and political parties is increasingly low. While young people are interested in politics, they are less inclined to engage with or become members of formal political institutions. Bridging the divide between young people and political parties requires new strategies that recognize young people’s legitimate concerns about formal institutions and the different ways in which young people want to organize politically.

We, the Heads of the international election observation and expert missions in Kenya, have been following preparations for the 9 August 2022 general elections by all stakeholders in Kenya, including the campaign activities of political parties, party coalitions, and candidates.

NDI-IRI Announce its International Mission to Observe the August 9 General Elections in Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya - The International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) announce the deployment of a joint international election observation mission to Kenya. The delegation arrived at the invitation of the Government of Kenya and received accreditation from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to observe the August 9 General Elections.

In May, 49.2 percent of Lebanese voters, in Lebanon and outside the country, went to the polls to elect a new parliament. The months preceding the elections were marked by uncertainty, with domestic and international observers unsure if elections would take place on time or at all. The lack of commitment from the government to implement elections resulted in delayed preparations for elections and inequalities among candidates.
