National Democratic Institute Marks Fifth Anniversary of #NotTheCost Campaign On Violence Against Women In Politics 

On Tuesday, March 16 at 9:30 am (EST), National Democratic Institute Chairman Madeleine K. Albright will host a virtual Women’s History Month event to announce a new call to action against violence against women in politics. Five years ago, under Secretary Albright’s leadership, NDI launched the #NotTheCost campaign to mobilize the international community to end violence against women in politics. Next Tuesday, NDI President Derek Mitchell, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bell will join Secretary Albright and political women from around the world to celebrate progress made and recommit to new collective action.

  • Dr. Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Health Minister and Leader of the Democratic Alliance Women’s National Leader, South Africa
  • Åsa Regnér, Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, UN System Coordination and Programme
  • Maria Ressa, Co-founder and CEO, Rappler

  • Brenda Santamaría, Chief of the Electoral Observation Section, Organization of American States
