We stand with the Belarusian people in their demand for free association, free assembly, free speech, and free elections. Statement by National Democratic Institute President Derek Mitchell on Maria Ressa and Reynaldo Santos
The verdict by a court in the Philippines to find journalists Maria Ressa and Reynaldo Santos guilty of “cyber libel” is a tragedy for democracy and freedom of the press. This action is sadly the latest in a string of troubling moves by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s government to silence independent journalism and attack the foundations of a free society.
