Abuja, Nigeria – The International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) are fielding a joint delegation to assess preparations for Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, which will build upon findings from an earlier assessment in July. The purpose of the Nigeria pre-election assessment mission is to support credible and peaceful elections in 2023. 

 

The delegation includes regional and election experts from Africa, Europe, and North America. The delegation will meet with relevant stakeholders to gather their views on the electoral process and the state of preparedness in advance of the 2023 elections. The delegation will present its findings in a public statement at the end of the mission. 

 

To complement this mission, NDI and IRI will also deploy thematic analysts based in Abuja and a joint international delegation to observe the February 2023 general elections in Nigeria. IRI and NDI have observed more than 200 elections around the globe, earning a reputation for impartiality and professionalism. The NDI-IRI mission to Nigeria will conduct its activities in accordance with the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and Code of Conduct adopted by the United Nations in 2005 and will base its findings and recommendations on Nigerian law and international election standards. All activities will be conducted on a strictly nonpartisan basis and without interfering in the election process.
